Hello everyone. The big TEST is just around the corner. As you know I've been doing the "Warm it up" (WIU) demos in some of your classrooms. Many of the students are very eager to take the test. So eager that they don't take the time to "warm it up."

The main purpose in this Dennis Parker bread and butter strategy is to have them slow down and think. If anything, the most important thing to do on the CST is to THINK. Read the title and THINK. Look at the graphics and THINK. Look at the text features and THINK. Skim, stop and THINK. Read, bounce back and THINK. THINK! THINK! THINK!

Our job is to help you help them. Tell me what you think of WIU. Tell us what we can do to help you. We want to hit that 750 mark but we can always strive for anything past 800.

Hope to hear from you soon!

  1. I really liked the warm it up campaign. I think it is a great way to get them to slow down. They just want to dive in and start answering. It is like they are going to get a prize for finishing first. This makes them look at the text first, and then analyze it before reading it. I like it. You are welcome to do a follow up. 2. I really like the warm it up idea. I have been working on it with the students. Before they acted like they were going to get some kind of prize for finishing first. Now they analyze the text before even reading it. It gives them more power over the test and the text. You are welcome to come do a warm it up follow up.

  3. I really like the warm it up idea. It really empowers the students to slow down and analyze the text before they even read it. My students have a real problem with going quickly and trying to be the first one done. So this is one more strategy to slow down and look at the text first. You can come in my room and do a follow up.
